Conversational Gift Planning

Competence   Confidence   Credibility

Charitable gift planning can’t be learned in a contextual void. We know; we tried it.. That’s why we designed this alternative to the traditional two-day seminar and its information-dump format.

Your introduction to Conversational Gift Planning consists of a seven lesson curriculum designed specifically to help strengthen your skills in the only place it really matters – in front of your future donors.

Most of the donors with whom you work are laypersons, so you need to explain often-complex legal and technical concepts to them conversationally.  You will learn how to explain and discuss all the basic types of gift plans--outright, testamentary, and life-income--in language that’s emotionally appealing and intellectually accessible to your donors. Pertinent gift strategies and issues relative to federal tax law are integrated into each 90 minute coaching session.

Each training session includes a virtual role play, using Interactive Case Studies ©, so you practice exactly as you will work in the homes and offices of your donors.

"Conversational Gift Planning is the perfect name for this personalized coaching program. We took a close look at both the mechanics of a wide variety of gift planning strategies and, more valuable, how to explain them to my donors. It was just what I needed." Ryan Hart, Executive Director of Gift Planning, Columbia University

“Other planned gift training fills your head with details about gift vehicles and tax advantages. Dan compliments that technical training by helping you practice the conversations that actually lead prospects toward their gift decision. Most fundraisers will recognize the people in Dan's cases. They have dreams to pursue and problems to solve. Dan is preparing gift planners to confidently navigate a journey toward both of those goals.”  Barbara Yeager, Director of Operations, National Association of Charitable Gift Planners

“Dan’s personalized tutorial was a great complement to the live training he did previously here at RIT.  The art of explaining complex gift planning strategies in a conversational way is the real value-added aspect that Dan brings.  He not only provided a solid platform for me with which to educate our gift officers – using the Interactive Case Study model – but his influence has also translated into more meaningful and more productive gift conversations with donors to RIT. “  Hal Burrall, Director of Planned Giving, Rochester Institute of Technology
